Abstract:
This Phase II effort will develop a prototype of Perceptral''s solution to meeting the needs of variable speed speech synthesis. Our approach involves a new method of sound segmentation that provides greater control of speech timing, while maintaining a high degree of intelligibility, as well as greater compression. Current systems fail to provide these adequately, because of the methods by which units are selected, and the means by which these units are manipulated in synthesis. The final deliverable of this project will be a software solution capable of providing the end-user variable control of speech rate in synthesis.
