Advanced Frangible Composite Structure

The technical objectives of this SBIR proposal include the design verification of a frangible composite ILS Glideslope Tower that will maintain existing tolerances and mission performance capabilities. Zephyr Engineering Services’ [ZES’] (formerly All-Tech Solutions, Inc. [ATSI] ), technical approach is based upon the probability demonstrated through Phase I analysis that a qualified, frangible Glideslope Tower can be designed and developed using existing/proven manufacturing technologies. This objective will be attained by first, clearly defining the necessary frangibility requirements for an ILS Glideslope Tower and generating an applicable specification; and second, by verifying sophisticated finite element models developed during Phase I through performance of sub-scale and full-scale dynamic impact testing. Following validation of the tower design, frangible Glideslope Towers will be manufactured in compliance with the proven design and deployed in military and commercial applications.
