Abstract:
Advanced radiators are needed for military vehicles, to allow engine output to be increased to meet new performance requirements. These radiators need to transfer more heat to the cooling air, while simultaneously reducing radiator size, pressure drop, weight and cost. Altex has identified and performed preliminary tests on a novel heat exchanger design that can meet the above challenging objectives. Under the base Phase I project, the novel heat exchanger will be designed, fabricated and tested, at subscale, to show the feasibility of the concept. Based on the test data, the design will be refined and costs estimated to show the benefits of the concept versus conventional vehicle radiators. Under the Phase I option effort, a full scale prototype test article will be designed and fabricated, ahead of testing to be carried out in the Phase II effort.
