Abstract:
Not Available A low cost, high energy density, pressure tolerant lithium-ion battery system is proposed based on doped Mn-based cathode material and low cost domestic graphite in 1M LiPF6 electrolyte with ternary carbonate-based organic solvents. A specialized cell design to limit and manage the electrolyte in soft package to provide the pressure tolerance and high energy density will be developed. A series of modified Mn-based lithium intercalation compounds will be investigated. The potential candidate materials will further be evaluated as cathodes for lithium-ion batteries. Cathodes and anodes will be prepared and performance evaluated under pressure up to 6000 psi in half-cells design. Several prismatic design lithium-ion pouch cells will be made and tested under various pressures to establish the feasibility of the proposed concept.
