Abstract:
During Phase I AGNC has investigated and proved the feasibility of an innovative configuration of Miniaturized Smart Self-calibration Electronic Pointing Device (EPD) for mortar applications. This innovative EPD configuration uses gyros and accelerometers in a new EPD implementation that produces a small and light device with lower cost and adequate accuracy for the small dismounted mortar applications. In Phase II, based on the efforts and progress of Phase I, we will build a prototype of the innovative EPD and test it in a laboratory testbed. The system will be evaluated as the mortars azimuth/heading and elevation measurement device. Calibration allows the targeted gyro and accelerometer performance to be governed by the in-run stability. At first, the system uses the processor of AGNC¡¦s existing product as a computation platform and at the end of the Phase II a miniature embedded system will be used for the EPD and a PDA will be used as the user interface device for display and network communication.
