Intelligent Lightweight Remotely Controlled Weapon Station for Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles
Agency / Branch:
DOD / ARMY
The objective of this project is to implement and demonstrate a small, lightweight, and affordable Intelligent Remotely Controlled Weapon Station (IRCWS) augmented and integrated with a Robotic Warrior Networked-Centric Tactical Decision Aids System (RWN-TDAS). This integrated IRCWS and RWN-TDAS system has the multiple functions of reconnaissance, target acquisition, fire control, automated target hand-off, and autonomous navigation, guidance and control. Because of its small size, lightweight, and low cost, it is highly suitable for use on small UGVs. This system is an integration of automated platforms controlling, targets detection monitoring and prediction, geospatial reasoning, sensor modeling and virtual reality powered displaying. It will provide precise control, targets surveillance and reconnaissance for multiple both precision guided and non-precision guided munitions with a high probability of success in a variety of environments and terrains. The Phase I efforts and achievements have laid a solid foundation for the Phase II project to successfully develop and deliver a practical, small, lightweight, and affordable integrated IRCWS and RWN-TDAS system. The system can be interfaced with ARDEC's CDAS for FCS, FFW and the COP of AFATDS.
