Abstract:
THE PROJECT WILL INVOLVE ADAPTATION AND VALIDATION OF NOISE SIGNAL ANALYSIS FOR MONITORING OF OPERABILITY OF THE PROCESSSENSORS IN NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS. THE PROJECT WILL FOCUS ON DEVELOPING MICROCOMPUTER-BASED ALGORITHMS AND PROCEDURES FORCONTINUOUS, UNATTENDED MONITORING OF SENSORS AS THE PROCESS IS OPERATING. THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN SENSOR SYSTEM DEGRADATION AND PROCESS TRANSIENTS WILL BE PERFORMED USING MULTIVARIATE MODELING OF TWO OR MORE SIGNALS. THE SENSOR OPERABILITY CHARACTERISTICS WILL BE QUANITIFED BY EVALUATING TIME-DOMAIN AND FREQUENCY-DOMAIN SIGNATURES INCLUDING AUTO- AND CROSS-POWER SPECTRA, WIDE-BAND NOISE RMSVALUES, AMPLITUDE PROBABILITY DENSITY, RMS VALUES AT THOSE FREQUENCIES WHICH REPRESENT CHARACTERISTIC SENSOR DYNAMICS, AND INFERRED RESPONSE TO A GIVEN INPUT. THE VALIDITY, ACCURACY, AND SENSITIVITY OF THE ALGORITHMS TO BE DEVELOPED WILL BE EXAMINED USING ACTUAL NOISE DATA FROM OPERATING NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS. A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF SENSOR NOISE DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED ON FM TAPE AND IS AVAILABLE FIRM FOR USE IN THIS PROJECT.
