Abstract:
Not Available Phase I research will be conducted to prove the feasibility of of developing a Micro Air-launched Expendable Visibility Sonde (MAXVS) to measure atmospheric visibility profiles for both military and research purposes. The proposed research will investigate unique visibility profile measurement requirements and engineering solutions, quantify the measurement accuracy that can be obtained using these micro-size instrument form factors, and develop a conceptual design for an instrument (microsonde) that can be launched from aircraft dispensers and that can achieve the required measurement accuracy. Optional work will validate conceptual designs to speed development of prototypes during Phase II.
