Abstract:
Current radar environment simulators do not have sufficient capability to stimulate the next generation EC and ESM receivers. These new receivers will have sensitivity levels that are significantly below the noise floor capabilities of current simulators. This proposal examines a variety of approaches to improve the performance of a radar environment simulator. It addresses the key performance area required to do this including, increasing output power levels, reducing noise levels, and improving the accuracy and spectral characteristics of the RF signal generated by the simulator. Phase I will evaluate the feasibility of the approaches from a performance enhancement point of view. Special emphasis will be placed on examining the application of new technologies. A demonstration of noise floor improvement techniques is proposed.
