Abstract:
Avionics simulation is an enabling technology for developing advanced integrated avionics. Avionics simulation consists of both digital models and hardware in the loop simulators. Multi-spectral sensor capabilities combined with information fusion is evolving integrated systems for real-time situation awareness and response strategies. The development of advanced technologies for these systems requires real-time multispectral hardware in the loop simulators. Development of individual RF, IR, and EO simulators for developing multispectral integrated avionics is very costly and with today's austere budget unaffordable. Reconfigurable generic simulators that can be linked together through networks provide a cost effective solution for the development of multispectral integrated avionics. The proposed innovative research for avionics simulation development will involve the development of a generic reconfigurable real-time EO electronic warfare engagement simulator (GENRES) that can be networked with RF simulators to provide a multi-spectral environment for developing integrated avionics systems. The objective of this phase I effort is to define the performance requirements, concepts, and risks for the GENRES. Concept demonstrations will be performed in phase I to mitigate technical risks and establish concept feasibility.
