Abstract:
This sponsoring agency has defined the need for a six degree-or-freedom (6DOF) magnetically levitated (maglev) test platform to be used for vibration analysis. The intended payload can range in mass from 1Kg to 1000kg and i size up to one meter by one meter at the base. Peak linear acceleration of 5 g's and strokes of 25 mm (peak-peak) are required. The platform should also be capable of simultaneous, controlled motion in all six degrees-of-freedom to duplicate any intended environment. The PHase I effort will include a literature search, feasibility maglev test platform. The advantage of a maglev 6-DOF test platform, versus the conventional electro-dynamic or electro-hydraulic based multiple degree-of-freedom systems, is the ability to minimize and possibly eliminate the cross coupling between different degrees-of-freedom.
