Abstract:
Applied Physical Electronics, L.C. offers a modular, Marx generator driven helical antenna system that is comprised of a single high voltage, high power Marx generator system and four antenna modules that will be developed to deliver wide band RF in the frequency range from 350 MHz to 1 GHz. The frequency spectrum is swept through manual replacement of antenna modules that are easily interchanged. Each antenna module is facilitated with a unique pulse conditioning component, designed to radiate the energy produced by the Marx generator more efficiently. The proposed system requires minimal user intervention during operation and offers burst mode repetition rates in excess of 250 Hz. Furthermore, the proposed source requires no hazardous, or undesired materials, including transformer oil or sulfurhexaflouride. Instead, APELC employs the use of solid insulators and dry, breathable, pressurized air. This proposal also brings an R&D component to further the development of enhanced resonant structures that will bring high efficiency to the proposed system, thereby making it well suited for airborne applications concerned with energy resources. The proposed APELC system has been specifically proposed for airborne payloads, due to its conformal geometry, its high directivity, and its wide band performance
