Abstract:
Simulation-based training is becoming an increasingly dominant mode of performance development in the broad spectrum of instructional, educational, and mission rehearsal media. In Phase I, we prototyped a Training Scenario Generator (TSG) to advance thetraining scenario development process from art to science. The TSG is envisioned as the front-end to an integrated team training system. In Phase II, we will fully integrate the TSG with a complex synthetic task environment and performance assessmentsystem for team training, focused on the Multi-sensor Command and Control Aircraft. The TSG will help training professionals craft scenarios geared toward the stimulation of competencies that are critical for mission performance. Scenarios will be run inthe Distributed Dynamic Decisionmaking team-in-the-loop simulator where measures of performance will be collected during training sessions. The measurement post-processor and feedback systems will generate dynamic visualizations of team performance andprovide diagnostic information to trainees. The feedback will be partitioned appropriately to provide the right amount of feedback necessary to correct individual and team behaviors and adjust performance in real time and through after-action reviews. Atthe completion of Phase II, we will demonstrate tools to support faster, efficient, repeatable, scientific methods for developing scenario-based team training.
