Abstract:

Medical Support Operations personnel need specialized training to prepare for stressful operations. Often, though, these operations do not follow the scripted training and require contingency plans that are more dynamically robust. Thus, a training tool is necessary to allow the medical support operations trainees to employ contingency plans on-the-fly in an environment that can be modified to allow for a new experience for each use. An immersive computer simulation can create such a dynamic environment that is readily available to trainees. To achieve an immersive computer simulation for use by medical support operations personnel, Architecture Technology Corporation (ATC) will design and develop MOSMART (Medical Operations Simulator for Monitoring and Assessing the Readiness of Trainees). MOSMART is a tool for use by medical support operations personnel to allow them to train in a dynamic environment. Trainees will be able to immerse themselves in MOSMART's virtual world and employ specific plans for various operations. During this training, the trainees will learn from the decisions made in the simulation and be assessed on their readiness for the given scenario. This assessment data will also be viewable by trainers to evaluate trainees' readiness.
