Abstract:
Motion Sick builds on Artis, LLC's experience in portable motion recording systems, data analysis and GIS software. Artis will develop a product line that meets the needs of railroad inspectors in determining passenger ride quality and a broader market to include other transportation modes. The base product of, GPS Motion Sick, meets all the requirements specified. As with many other Artis motion recorders, a six degree of freedom motion recording device with GPS plugs directly into the USB port of a laptop or PC. This interfaces with sophisticated data collection, signal processing and data visualization software that includes a GIS display. The Artis Pathways GIS provides for real time system location and data output such as color-coded ride quality paths. This and the Graphways analysis package can output data in many formats compatible with other commercial GIS and analysis packages. Artis extends the required concept with two options; 1) Motion Sick, an ultra-portable battery-operated that can collect and store several hours of motion data; 2) Distributed Motion Sick, distributed, wireless recording devices that automatically establish an ad hoc communications network based on the Zigbee protocol to record motion data from several points and transfer to a laptop base station.
