The architectural assessment tool being developed by ASSETT, Inc is based upon research completed for both DOD and the commercial market place. The assessment process has been validated against both submarine combat system and commercial network architectures and during Phase II will be made compliant with the DOD's architectural framework (DODAF). Using a set of nine key attributes mapped to the four categories and 26 associated views from DODAF, our assessment tool will enable quantified comparisons to an established reference architecture. The assessment tool enables a user to answer a series of questions structured to compare, measure, and drive consistency across all inputs. Key capabilities of this architectural assessment tool are its ability to (1) Incorporate the impacts of emerging technology and (2) Measure the enablement for Human Systems Integration (HSI) factors to assist with reduced manning, operator workload, and automation related analysis. This tool is currently planned for use by PEO Submarines with engineering trade studies, technology impact assessments, and Advanced Processor/Tactical Build (APB/ATB) planning. The resultant architectural assessment is comprehensive and covers weighted results across a series of parameters, where other tools may only focus on a few such as performance and cost.
