Abstract:
This proposal addresses the development of a practical 3-dimensional near-field acoustic holography system which is capable of measuring and describing the acoustic source characteristics of jet plumes from full-scale high performance military jet engines. This Phase I SBIR has two parts. The first part involves the development of a detailed design specification for a system which can address all of the concerns identified in the solicitation. This design specification will include a thorough review of the current state-of-the-art technology and identification of the current limitations of each method in the context of the desired system performance parameters. The second part involves the design of a system, at a conceptual level, that can meet the design specification. Risks associated with each component will be identified and risk reduction plans will be defined. Development and exercising of prototype signal processing algorithms and other data analysis tools which can meet the design requirements will be the focus of much of this effort.
