Abstract

DTI will develop a low-cost, small size, high performance Magnetic Induction Plasma (MIP) engine enabled by advanced solid-state switching technology. We propose to design, fabricate, and test a prototype system. We will design and test an electrodeless plasma source; model electromagnetic and plasma behavior to inform design of the thruster; design high power solid-state power electronics to power and control the thruster; fabricate and test at our facility; and test the engine at more sophisticated facilities operated by an industrial partner, the Air Force, or both.
