Abstract
PteroDynamics has developed the Transwing UAS, a unique VTOL aircraft that takes off and lands as a multi-rotorcraft, but in-flight, transitions via a hinge in the wing root into a fixed-wing aircraft without adding additional weight or drag to the airframe. In a hover, the Transwing UAS design allows for a greatly reduced logistical footprint, is compact and maneuverable, and provides increased stability and control. In the fixed-wing configuration, the high aspect wing (L/D ratio greater than 20:1 is possible) allows for increased range and endurance. Transwing UAS benefits include: -Force multiplier: Cross-domain integration of a single design vehicle adaptable to varying missions across USAF, DoD, government, first responder, and commercial entities. -Easily integrated: Versatile deployment options increase mission flexibility, reach, penetration, and integration -Cost savings: Single design, multi-mission vehicle improves affordability while limiting supply chain and maintenance support requirements -Scalability: The Transwing design is capable of scaling up from the current 6' demonstrator aircraft
