Abstract
PteroDynamics (Ptero) has developed a unique transwing VTOL UAS platform that folds its wings during flight to transition between a rotorcraft configuration optimized for takeoff/landing and a fixed-wing configuration for flight. The Transwing design is unlike any other VTOL, having an aerodynamic profile that enables greater lift-to-drag ratios (up to 20:1) to significantly increase the sUAS range, endurance, or payload capacity not capable by any other VTOL sUAS system (ranges up to 700-980 miles). The Transwing design also allows for a much smaller ground footprint than similar fixed-wing designs while retaining VTOL capability.
