In this project we will adapt our programmable neural network processor (NNP) into a Fuzzy/neural network processor (FNNP). Already having the commercially successful NNP, we begin this program with more than half the work completed. we will define and evaluate NNP architectural modifications to optimize both data flow and data processing for both fuzzy logic and neural network- Operations- we will also design modifications for Our set of ten NNP instructions to ip-.7-4e fuzzy logic Operations- in Phase I we will modify and test the NNp to verify and demonstrate the added fuzzy logic capability. We can perform this test quickly and cost effectively because a significant portion of the NNP hardware is implemented in field programmable gate arrays. An option, if exercised, will allow more extensive revision of a NNP and testing as a FNNP Phase I will lead to a board-sized product in Phase II and a single integrated circuit or chip set in Phase HI. using neural network and fuzzy logic technologies together promises dramatically increased processing performance for visual and FLIER scene processing, target recognition, IFF, and image compression for bandwidth efficient transfer.
