Abstract

In order to destroy maneuvering ballistic targets containing chemical, biological or nuclear warheads by means of PAC-3 or THAAD like systems, the accuracy of intercept should be within centimeters from the targeted aimpoint. The twofold objectives of thePhase II research is to continue to develop, optimize and mature the new advanced GNC algorithms, including estimators/differentiators, guidance laws and controllers. Additionally, Phase II will continue development of a reactive material warhead that willfurther insure the complete destruction of conventional, biological and chemical targets in a more robust manner. This synthesis of the G&C algorithms (to provide a closest approach and appropriate handoff data) with the specialized warhead utilizingreactive materials, will allow for much improved overall system performance.Briefly Missile Systems & Technologies, Inc. proposes to develop advance estimation, G&C techniques to decrease the miss distance to the minimum possible and to form interceptor housed reactive structures out of Hi-Therm¿ materials that can enhance thedestruction of the incoming threat.Advanced Interceptor Lethality against Maneuvering targets carrying Weapons of Mass Destruction, such as Chemical, Biological, Nuclear, or other currently unknown agents. Commercial applications of control techniques in Medical field, and commercialopportunities for distribution of these techniques throughout the defense industry.
