Abstract

In Phase II of this project, we will build and demonstrate a COTS-based infrared scene generation system that utilizes multiple graphics processing units operating in parallel with pixel level timing synchronization. Current and future defense system technologies are being designed with performance characteristics and capabilities which make them challenging to adequately test in a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environment. Missile defense applications represent a particularly challenging test environment based on the mission complexity and the variety of phenomenological effects occurring simultaneously that are within the sensor band. The role of HIL for the missile defense application is particularly urgent given the inability to test systems and sensors within fully populated complex scenarios. The performance of missile defense sensors and systems for all but the most limited engagements will be predicted in large part by HIL testing.
