Abstract

There is need for a convenient biodegradable bone substitute to support soft tissue and stimulate bWe will combine its unique BIOPORE material with the recently characterized osteogenic growth peptidthis objective. BIOPORE is a porous biodegradable material developed by BIOTEK. OGP is a 14-aminoacinormally present in serum, which stimulates proliferation and activity of osteoblasts and increasesdelivered systemically. We have conducted initial studies of protein delivery from BIOPORE and shownof bioactive horseradish peroxidase for 10 - 20 days. The Phase I program will prepare and characterloaded BIOPORE samples, conduct bone regrowth studies on placebo BIOPORE in rats, and determine theOGP delivery from peptide-loaded samples. If time permits, preliminary in vivo studies of OGP-loadedwill also be conducted late in Phase I.
