Curriculum on Demand

This project will support adult learners who have had difficulty learning from traditional means by providing curricular materials on-demand. It will demonstrate an instructionally sound, cost- effective, user-friendly technology for delivering instruction directly to learners' homes 24 hours a day. Virtually all previous adult education has compromised either convenience or completeness. Learners had to travel to a remote location or they were provided with home study curricula that were thin or not truly interactive. Newly developed software allows Internet access to Windows- based programs with a thorough curriculum intelligent response analysis and error judging, complex branching, individualized remediation, student tracking, and report generation. All of these instructional resources can be made available on entry-level computing platforms (i.e., i286 processor with 640k RAM). We will demonstrate this capability in Phase I linking one remote site to a networked file server loaded with instructional programs. In Phase II, we will implement and evaluate the program fully with a representative sample of adults in a one-year implementation.
