Abstract

This project proposes to investigate the synergistic technology integration pertaining to missile seeker, guidance, and warhead fuzing designs which will significantly improve the missile performance in intercepting hypervelocity, maneuvering, and low-observable targets in an ECM-rich, multiple target environment. The technical innovations of the proposed optimized guidance integrated fuzing (GIF) approach include: 1) Guidance integrated fuzing concept which will result in timely warhead detonation and maximize the warhead effectiveness; 2) Accurate aimpoint selection of the most vulnerable part of a target of interest; 3) Common target state estimation for both guidance and fuzing; 4) Guidance integrated fuzing which improves the effectiveness of weapon systems; and 5) Application of specific software package which will facilitate the concept validation and future algorithm development. Extensions of a current existing 6DOF simulation program will be carried out to conform with the requirements of this program. In Phase II, the validated fuzing system with aimpoint selection and associated algorithms will be fully developed, tested, and documented. Hardware and software necessary to implement the GIF system will be developed.
