Abstract

The Army has developed a Block I Single Channel Antijam Man portable (SCAMP) terminal power supply for field deployment. The Block I SCAMP, a 30 lb terminal, runs at least 12 hours on an Army Standard 24 VDC battery. The Block II SCAMP terminal will be a 15 lb terminal that will run at least 24 hours off a battery. The Block II SCAMP upgrade requires a smaller, lighter, high efficiency DC to DC power converter. Megadyne Corporation design power supplies for both the military and commercial environment. The requirements for the SCAMP supply have been modeled in power supply design software to create two optional designs. Both designs provide approximately 93% efficiency using Class R zero voltage converter technology. The high density decreases the overall weight and size. However, the modules can be form fit to the existing power converter foot print. Phase I initiates with a design review from the Army to determine the optimal design is then brass board prototype using discrete components, tested and updated to a preproduction model. The final result of Phase I is a completed power supply ready for full produce development. Phase II would integrate the preproduction power supply in the BLOCK II SCAMP terminal. In addition, several units will be built and tested for a mil qualified environment.
