Abstract

As a candidate concept to recycle Post-Consumer Waste (PCW), Industrial Honeycomb Structures, Inc. (IHS) proposes to incorporate PCWs as feedstocks for manufactoring an innovative, cost-effective construction material systems using building panels comprised of paper-honeycomb and fiber-reinforced-polymer honeycomb FRPH) structural elements. These elements are light-weight, high-strength, tough, resilient, and capable of high-volume machine fabrication. Nine candidate panel applications are proposed, each of which would incorporate large quantities of PCWs. The PCWs would replace virgin materials that would otherwise be used in manufacturing the structural panels. During the Phase I project, feasibility for five selected FRPH panel applications will be determined through the following steps: develop design specifications, design panel, fabricate test specimens, perform laboratory tests, and evaluate the test results.
