Technological advances in networking, transceiver technology, digital signal processing and embedded systems enable the design of a low power, low cost, wireless communication system that does not restrict the mobility of the subject, or the observer. Prior research has focused on routing and channel access, but has not considered these issues, jointly. In the proposed work, the combined effect of these issues, along with issues related to radio communication, will be explored, thus resulting in a network design that is optimized for dynamic-cluster operations. Technology survey, comparative analysis, radio-channel simulation and network simulation will be used to gain insight into key technical requirements, concluding with a technology demonstration that leverages existing hardware.
