The communication requirements for military forces in the future will demand small, lightweight, low-powered data routers for ground troops autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles and other applications requiring interconnected nodes. The MobileIntelligent Router (MIR) provides a solution delivers complete, secure and scalable internetworking for military systems such as Future Combat Systems that benefit from portable low-cost mobile intercommunication capabilities. The SBIR Phase I work successfully demonstrated that mobile routers are practical for use in wireless ad hoc networks, and can provide secure, reliable interconnectivity with high data rates. However, there is a need to further the development of havingadaptability, increased reliability, the ability to prioritize data and self-optimize data throughput. To achieve this goal, Bluetronix will incorporate Swarm-based Routing Algorithms within the router hardware. The Mobile Intelligent Router is an enabling technology for many military and commercial applications including Future Combat Systems, autonomous vehicles, Wireless Ad Hoc Distributed Sensors Networks and the Airborne Internet. Further development of thistechnology will provide not only a useful technology in itself but will improve the effectiveness, robustness and adaptability of many systems.
