Under the current SBIR solicitation, the DoD is interested in the development and demonstration of aircraft decontamination processes that are capable of completely detoxifying both chemical and biological warfare agents without increasing susceptibility to corrosion or adversely affecting the performance, properties, or appearance of aircraft materials. Decontamination processes may include individual decontamination methods or a combination of methods. The proposed efforts will focus on the use of hot air decontamination methods and recent advances in vapor phase decontamination processes for CB agents that are capable of decontaminating 3-D structures or spaces. Additional consideration will be given to spot decontamination methods to minimize agent concentrations and reduce the potential for cross contamination. The program plan will experimentally evaluate/demonstrate the efficacy of select decontaminant materials and/or processes to effectively decontaminate aircraft surfaces with minimum impact on aircraft materials. The outcome of this program will be an effective and efficient process for large frame aircraft decontamination.
