Abstract

This research project is directed at developing advanced, high-performance, operator-machine interfaces that can be applied to a wide range of real military and commercial applications. As a first step in this direction, we are proposing to collect interface performance data and use this data to develop, implement, and evaluate concept approaches for advanced soldier computer interface systems. We believe that the understanding gained through this project will lead to a methodology for constructing operator-machine interfaces that will significantly improve performance. The proposed effort will produce technology that has significant commercial potential in both the government and commercial sectors. Government applications include C3I, teleoperation, navigation, surveillance, target acquisition. Commercial applications include manufacturing, vehicle control, and security systems.
