For the Phase II SBIR, DPI is proposing a series of demonstrations that focus on autonomy technologies required to make the UAS simple to operate and effective for autonomous flight operations including obstacle avoidance, takeoff and landing. The autonomy selected will support autonomous takeoff, landing and site selection. The specific technology that we are proposing to integrate is the following • DP-6 WHISPER UAS • Open standards (JAUS and STANAG-4586) ground and air vehicle control elements • Dynamic path planning • Kutta Unified Ground Control Station • Navsys Smart-DEM based on the 3D-Eye • Fibertek LIDAR with DPI obstacle field module. DPI will build a Phase II demonstration platform from the existing DP-6 VTOL UAS. DPI evaluated a number of other vehicles for the autonomy demonstrations and many have a much higher cost per flight hour, which would significantly constrain both the possible number of demonstrations and available time for testing in Phase II. The DP-6 Whisper will demonstrate all relevant autonomy technologies needed for the Combat Medic Mission to potential military sponsors. With additional sponsorship, DPI will fly the DP-5XT Medevac and meet the requirement to carry 1000 lbs in a logistically efficient and simple to operate configuration.
