Abstract

Toyon Research proposes to develop a Thermal Desorption tube sampling system, capable of meeting the requirements stated in the project solicitation: a programmable interface that allows adjusting sampling system operation in situ; a mechanical design that supports replacing used tubes to support indefinite sampling periods; and an approach for receiving trigger signals from a real-time sensor. Based on a survey of commercial-off-the-shelf units, no solution was found that can easily provide all of these functions. Importantly, Toyon proposes to demonstrate feasibility of its solution by developing a functional prototype in Phase I. The prototype will enable eliciting feedback on the intended functions and interface features for Phase II development. The functional prototype will utilize COTS equipment, including programmable logic control units, which may be replaced in Phase II with smaller, customized control boards and electronics.
