ABOM has developed a novel active anti-fog technology platform that has solved the problem of eyewear fogging. These fog-free and ballistics-rated polycarbonate lenses provide the individual soldier with sustained distant visual acuity and improved situational awareness. Under this proposed SBIR Phase I project, ABOM will perform evaluation and feasibility studies for four proposed Military Combat Eye Protection (MCEP) candidates (two tactical goggles and two spectacles). All MCEP candidates will incorporate ABOMs active anti-fog technology platform and will be evaluated for lower size, weight, and power (SWaP) characteristics; abrasion resistance; individual equipment compatibility; ultraviolet blocking; maximum field of view; ballistic resistance; impact resistance; optical performance compliance; and cost-effective design. Feasibility studies will also evaluate centralized power source/management system connections as a primary or recharging power source. Future integration opportunities include see-through heads-up-displays, physiologic and surveillance sensors, and communications technologies. The primary objective of this SBIR Phase I project is to select one of the four active anti-fog MCEP candidates to progress to Phase II using a down selection criteria matrix for translation into a stable, producible, sustainable, and cost-effective design that will enhance soldiers situational awareness, operational readiness, and sustained human performance/effectiveness while operating in harsh environmental conditions.
