The ability to authenticate electronic devices is an important step towards modernizing the hardware/software of our Nations communication systems. Protecting these targeted networks and devices from malicious cyber-based attacks is becoming increasingly important as the technological and cyber capabilities of our adversaries continue to advance. In addition to network security, device authentication allows for integrated systems to be fingerprinted with applications tied to those unique fingerprints; these technologies will have inherent safeguards against reverse-engineering, tampering, or counterfeiting if lost or captured during combat. New authentication technologies will also likely be of interest to private citizens and consumers, whose information is now tied to mobile devices that are constantly under threat of cyber-attacks. To meet these needs, IERUS Technologies (IERUS) and Southern Research (SR) propose to demonstrate a new class of novel provably unclonable functions on rec-configurable devices for applications in authenticated communications systems and beyond.
