ARPA-E is interested in receiving Full Applications in support of advancing the recovery and reclamation of CMs and other valuable elements from MSWI ashes. The broad objective of the MIDAS topic is to explore (i) real-time, cost-effective elemental identification techniques for MSWI ash, (ii) economically feasible methods of concentrating and extracting elements that may initially be in low concentrations (e.g., Sc, La, Ce, Pr, Nd) in the MSWI ash, and (iii) refining technologies for upcycling scrap metals within the waste processing facilities.
