Abstract

There are over 123 UH-1Y aircraft in service today, each equipped with five internal fuel cells, with an average cost of $15k per fuel cell. The current supply chain for UH-1Y fuel cells is not able to meet delivery nor quality requirements, which has resulted in a significant force readiness issue. With this SBIR Phase II proposal, Response Technologies (RT) aims to: 1) “Phase I Qualify” a construction to MIL-DTL-27422F and to NAVAIR’s specific procurement requirements, and 2) Prototype the five fuel cells and perform initial testing on those fuel cells. RT has a novel Additive Manufacturing fuel cell process with proven testing results. RT’s team has direct product and market experience with a clear path to commercialization.
