Abstract

Mentis Sciences, Inc. and the University of New Hampshire will continue the design work started in Phase I of the program to develop an ultra-lightweight modular electronics enclosure. During the Phase I effort, a concept for the enclosure was developed, and preliminary structural and thermal analysis was conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the concept. At the conclusion of Phase I, the projected weight of the system, including the thermal management components, is 116 lbs.In Phase II, the design team will complete the analysis and detailed design work, and then build a prototype enclosure with a working thermal management system for the Navy to analyze. Mentis Sciences and the University of New Hampshire have established nine tasks to meet the technical objectives of the program. Each of the tasks identified helps to directly address the Navy’s need for a lightweight, modular electronics pod. Many of the tasks are scheduled to occur concurrently, as some of the tasks are iterative in nature. Mentis and UNH will use a small core design team that will communicate frequently during the period of performance.
