Abstract

This project will address the U.S. Air Force needs for single-piece, electronically dimmable eye protection device (EDEPD). In Phase I, InnoSense LLC (ISL) will demonstrate feasibility of the approach by incorporating electrochromic layer on curved polycarbonate substrates. Phase I tests will include optical and physical characterizations regarding transmission range, switching speed, haze, uniformity, color neutrality and life time (extrapolated). The results will be used to compare the coating performance with threshold, objectives and requirements. EDEPD roadmap, including further optimization, military standard testing and validation, and scale up manufacturing will be developed for Phase II engineering. This EDEPD roadmap will guide ISL through Phase II and later allow Phase III insertion. The project team has significant experience developing coatings for military goggle/visor applications. Teaming arrangements are in place for transitioning the product to use condition.
