Abstract

RADAR (and similar direct or observational meteorological measuring equipment) has limitations (inability to measure low vis conditions, line-of-site, limited vertical (z-axis), expensive/heavy equipment is required, etc.). To solve these limitations, a Purdue University team (launched via a SBC called FlightProfiler) has developed a technology that delivers a computer generated X-Y-Z environmental visualization. This enables users located anywhere to observe and measure meteorological conditions. This last part is important because comprehensive environmental modeling is composed of multi-terabytes of data and therefore this type of technology requires cutting edge optimization. The Purdue team has spent years focused on innovative optimization techniques and is one of the leading centers in the country for this type of visual optimization - which is important for being able to visually represent the massive data that will be produced by quantum computing. A minimum viable product (MVP) is already possible (see short video at www.flightprofiler.com) and this STTR would be used to refine the output to what is most important to USAF stakeholders.
