Abstract

This proposal addresses the Department of Defense (DoD) AI Strategy focus area “streamlining business processes. Dynamic Dimension Technologies (DDT) proposes the use of AI and blockchain technology to automate and increase the security of Air Force base (AFB) security-gate, restricted area, and facility access processes. AI can automate AFB gate access to regular visitors (employees, military, etc.) by combining machine vision, for facial and vehicle image recognition, and history-based predictive models for identifying potential threats. The user data utilized by such a system can be securely and inexpensively stored using a private blockchain network. Phase I will result in a prototype development plan tailored to improving a specific security-gate or restricted-area system. Phase I will also include researching specific systems, compiling resources for prototype development, and creating a prototype model. Our solution is based on applying established open-source frameworks such as Google’s TensorFlow AI and Ethereum blockchain to specific systems. Our team has previous project experience applying AI and blockchain technology to space exploration and law enforcement management. This idea has the potential for mass scalability within the DoD, and our Utah State University Technology Transfer partnership creates opportunities for growth beyond the DoD.
