Abstract

This proposed Phase I STTR effort will be a collaboration between OmniScience LLC and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) Vision and Security Technology (VAST) Lab. The primary objective of this Phase I effort is to demonstrate feasibility of a brain computer interface (BCI) controller for augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) and conventional screen displays, referred to herein as an AI Readiness and Control Helmet with EEG Recognition (ARCHER). This ARCHER controller serves two purposes: 1) to control electronic devices via thought and 2) to optionally monitor the mental state of the operator. OmniScience has developed early-stage prototype hardware and software and there are numerous prospective commercial markets for this technology (discussed in more depth later), including gaming, workflow, training, consumer electronics, and medical devices, that OmniScience aims to pursue. However, there are also a number of prospective applications for this technology within the USAF that we outline herein. The purpose of this Phase I effort is to expand this hardware to further research and develop ARCHER’s hardware/software interfaces and to scout out prospective customers both within and outside the USAF.
