Abstract

Smartphones and other mobile devices are becoming Air Force users’ primary digital tool, overtaking computers and desk phones as their go-to devices. However, these commercial devices, which are carried with users everywhere, are susceptible to being comprised by overreaching applications and bad actors. Privoro’s SafeCase platform, commercially available since November 2018, an independent of the smartphone, hardware root of trust based platform that gives users the ability to control the use of cameras and microphones, trusted sensors (GPS and IMU’s), and a secure communication capability to a cloud based management system Privoro will demonstrate sensor control, integration with an MDM, and secure software and firmware updates. The impact will be to provide the Air Force a trusted mitigation for exposed cameras and microphones of commercial mobile devices and pro-active policy enforcement and management. Privoro will demonstrate the ability to provide blue force tracking via the secure sensors (GPS, and inertial measurement unit’s) and a secure location reporting capability to a cloud based management system. The impact of this project will be to improve command center situational awareness and the ability of surveillance, protective service, and deployed teams to operate more securely in areas where traditional commercial mobile services are untrusted.
