Abstract

In a previous National Science Foundation SBIR project, the developer created an online platform that uses songs to support mathematical learning. In the current project, the team will develop a prototype of a component of a platform to guide students in creating and producing their own music videos about algebra. The prototype will include a video production application, features to enhance learning and creativity such as engaging graphics and choreographed dance moves, and a mode to present videos. At the end of Phase I, in a pilot study with 100 middle school students and 4 teachers, the researchers will examine whether students are able to use the song creation engine as intended, the ease of implementation in the classroom, and to what extent the platform supports students' algebra readiness.
