Abstract

In this Phase II STTR Project, Team UtopiaCompression (UC) will adapt its 3D ultrasound prototype device to address key research questions posed by AF TPOC and end-users (in particular, Eglin AFB Medical Community- Invisible Wounds Center, family/concussion clinics and emergency rooms). The prototype uses an innovative ultrasound design technology to capture 3D data of anatomical structures (here, optic nerve sheath- ONS) as well as point elastography measurements. Through pre-clinical studies, we will document the behavior of ONS (dilation and elastography measurements) with respect to mild changes in ICP during a concussion episode. The study will also track ONS changes during recovery phase as well as in case of recurrent concussion episodes. Phase II will result in calibrating ONS measurements with respect to mild ICP changes to provide reading in percentile form. The prototype post-Phase II can be used in a clinical setting to determine the value add in comparison to existing DoD screening tool for concussion.
