Abstract

Puckboard  is a real-time collaborative flight scheduling platform available worldwide to service members using any device. Featuring an intuitive user interface that feels natural and familiar, Puckboard innovates squadron operations and enables service members to focus on the mission at hand. The platform is fully certified and authorized to operate on military or civilian networks and was the first application to receive Continuous Authority to Operate (cATO) under Platform One’s Impact Level 4 environment. Puckboard allows for easy event creation, customizable squadron settings, automated conflict notifications, event volunteering, crew availability at a glance, and many other features.  Puckboard has transformed the lives of thousands of Airmen by providing modern solutions and consistent development cycles, improving efficiency and readiness. It allows Airmen to spend their time on the mission at hand, not on outdated processes and administrative overhead. Puckboard is a success throughout the Mobility Air Forces community, exemplifying  collaborative, modern, open-source development and mentorship models within the DoD. It has significantly impacted fighter and tanker squadrons and non-flying squadrons in the cyber, missile, and medical communities. Puckboard has shown DoD-wide impact with our partnership and efforts to revolutionize scheduling alongside the United States Marine Corps.  Part of Puckboard's success is attributed to RevaComm’s partnership with Airmen Coders, a group within Tron offering Airmen a path to upskill in software development and give back to the USAF. Our partnership with them has been a technically and organizationally valuable program, giving critical insight to Puckboard’s end users. With the help of Airmen Coders, Puckboard focuses on key features that address the most vital pain points in Airmen's daily scheduling. As a result, Puckboard grew organically from supporting 1 squadron to 102 squadrons across the DoD in a year, without spending years in development or any marketing and sales dollars. Instead, the app's success can be attributed to the community support and user-centered design methodologies applied during development.  RevaComm is interested in growing the future of Tron and Puckboard even further by continuing to build pathways and technical architecture for future solutions. Some of these future solutions include:  Building a Scheduling Common Application Programming Interface (API) to connect with systems of record. Replicating Puckboard’s open architecture across other solutions to make data accessible to AMC and the rest of the USAF and DoD. Documenting and providing pathways for other apps to receive a certificate to field (CtF) and cATO on Platform One. RevaComm aims to achieve these objectives all while expanding Puckboard’s impact and enabling Airmen to contribute across the entire development lifecycle.
