The Environmentally Oriented Systems Atmospheric Effects Library (EOSAEL) treats the propagation of ultraviolet through millimeter wavelength electromagnetic radiation for a wide range of atmospheric conditions. Because EOSAEL was originally designed in the 1970s for operation on mainframe and mini-computers, many archaic, cumbersome artifacts remain embedded in the code structure and programming language. Some of these artifacts create significant difficulties for users attempting to convert and run EOSAEL in personal computer environments. Under Phase I of this SBIR, Science and Technology Corporation proposes to: (1) modernize EOSAEL by designing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) utilizing the popular Windows environment; (2) implement user input and output displays the scene information graphically; (3) establish the process for writing and distributing the library on CD-ROM; and (4) explore the addition of supplementary databases, including video clips, to be accessed by EOSAEL for Windows. A working prototype of EOSAEL for Windows will be produced using the module COMBIC.
