Abstract

The Phase I tasks for optimized receiver development were successfully accomplished and point to a Phase II program with emphasis on detector and electronics development for the long wave infrared. Detector types to be further investigated and developed include the single chip photovoltaic HgCdTe, hybrid detector/preamplifier, and avalanche photodiode. Low noise preamplifiers with cooled components will be developed and the prospects of improved optical throughput will be investigated. The program will result in delivery of advanced detectors and electronics for integration with existing fieldable testbed sensors. The Phase II work will provide a key enabling technology for further development by the government of advanced sensors for both chemical and biological defense.
