Abstract

During Phase II, Spectral Sciences Inc., proposes to develop innovative software tools for timely and highly specific characterization of the world littoral zones using data from new satellite-based hyperspectral imaging systems. SS Phase II objectivesinclude (1) develop a software package containing an automated LZ atmospheric correction code with advanced algorithms for determining ocean bottom and underwater object reflectances, (2) completion of the prototype HSI data simulation model, and (3)application of the software to analysis of imagery from the Warfighter and NEMO HSI sensors. The results of this effort will be products for end-to-end processing of HSI data to identify underwater objects, map water to within a fraction of a meter, retrieve water turbidity and composition, and characterize the coastal land terrain. Commercial applications include fishery resources, harbor/shore silting and erosion, shipping lane monitoring, environmental control, and surveillance.
